Phillies Charities 5K

I was FINALLY able to complete the Phillies Charities 5K this year (after not being able to do it last year due to my heel issues).  I was so excited to be around thousands of other Phillies fans and MOST excited to be able to walk a lap around the warning track and  look up into the stands…

….unfortunately the night before the run, we received this email:

Dear DANA,

Despite the recent snowstorm, the Phillies Charities 5K will go on as planned on Saturday, March 24 at 9 a.m.

Unfortunately, there will not be a cool down lap around the warning track on the field as the snow has not yet melted.

For additional race day information, please visit phillies.com/5k.

We appreciate your support of the event and look forward to seeing you at the starting line!

We weren’t going to let this stop us so early Saturday morning, Kevin and I met my sister and brother-in-law and headed to Philly.  It was a beautiful sunny day as we lined up with the crowd to start.  I knew the the Phillie Phanatic usually leads the runners on his ATV at the start of the race, so I made my way through the crowd to take some pictures of him on the sidelines as he zoomed by.

I made my way back to my family and we began the 3 miles, weaving our way around the sports complexes and some of the streets of Philadelphia.  I was surprised how much on course entertainment they had – everything from bands, former players, a guy playing accordion and even Mrs Phanatic – which I didn’t even know was a thing!  Her name is Phoebe Phanatic and is the Phanatics mother – and apparently he once hit her in the face while pitching a baseball.

whoops!
whoops!

The course was pretty flat – combine that with all the on course entertainment, the long sleeve shirt, and the 4 game tickets – this run is well worth it!  🙂
