Earth Day is such a great day to celebrate – you don’t need to decorate, send cards or buy presents – actually NOT doing any of these things is best! 🙂
Earth Day started in 1970 in the US, but became recognized worldwide in 1990! I am constantly trying to find ways to reduce, reuse and recycle – but there is always something to learn and Earth Day programs that may be available in your area might be a great resource! It is amazing how doing something small can have a big impact on the environment – such as biking instead of driving.
Today I celebrated by riding my bike to the grocery store (something I need to do more often) and bringing reusable bags (something I always do). I hooked up JoJo’s Doggyride and off I went. Unfortunately the kickstand on the Doggyride wasn’t up the whole way and as I went over a bump in the road it snapped down and started dragging along the road making a HORRIBLE scraping sound. I jumped off my bike, quickly fixed the problem and continued to the grocery store. I think today I finally found the best way to get there to avoid most of the traffic and it also seemed to be the flattest route – wahoo!! 🙂
After checking out I was a bit worried I wouldn’t be able to fit all the groceries – I had a lot of cold stuff I wanted to keep together, but I also had a few larger items that HAD to go in the Doggyride. After an “oh shit” moment and a bit of rearranging, I was actually able to fit it all in the Doggyride and didn’t have to use the panniers I brought along.
As I started home an elderly couple asked me if I was going camping and after I explained I was just going grocery shopping they thought it was the coolest idea! 🙂
I also biked to work yesterday – it was the 1st time in a while and I have to admit I was huffing and puffing a bit, but this is my favorite time to go because the park I ride through has a cool pond – and I got to see some cute ducklings!! 🙂 I love watching them grow a little bigger each time I go by. The only bad thing is the pollen count is out of this world right now and my allergies were going crazy. Also some tree fell across the entrance I use – It fell like 2 weeks ago and they still haven’t moved it so I had to lift my bike over it – just sort of annoying as it is way too big for me to move myself.
All in all it was a great few days of cycling and enjoying nature! 🙂
Anyone else celebrating Earth Day?
Awww…I love the baby ducklings! What a great little bike trailer you have, they come in handy for so many things!
